Think pretty mediterianian floor tiles, rustic chunky tables and delicious food presented so beautifully you “Ooooooooh” loudly as it arrives at your table.

I’m talking about The Botanist .
A small chain of gorgeously furnished quirky restaurants serving simple food that’s just as delicious as it looks!

We’ve been fans of The Botanist in Alderly Edge and Chester for a while, but when we saw a new restaurant had opened in beautiful Knutsford, we just had to check to out!!

Without a doubt, in true Knutsford style, I think its the best of the bunch!

Let me share with you our little weekend lunch date…

We started with drinks. A Strawberry and Cucumber cocktail from the new cocktail menu for me, and a Samuel Adams Boston Lager for Colin.
The drinks here are brilliant. A Cocktail Bar by night, the mixologists know what they’re doing and it was delicious! The same can be said for the Craft Beer Bible, there are 30 or so beers to choose from so plenty for the boys too!

The Botanist, while cool, is super ‘family friendly’. We arrived at our table with a highchair already in place, colouring sheets and crayons, as well as super cute ‘Ollie sized’ knife, fork and spoon.

While we browsed the menu, we nibbled on some of The Botanists signature ‘Onion Petals’. I honestly can’t tell you how delicious these little things are. You just need to try them!!

Starters. Tiger Prawn and Avocado salad with Bloody Mary Dressing for me. A Basket (literally the cutest little picnic basket) of wings with Piri Piri sauce for him. Both were honestly…perfection!

The Prawns were big and fresh, with just the right amount of dressing. The salad came layered in a glass with two big slices of wholemeal bread to pile it onto and a squeeze of lemon.

The wings were crispy on the outside but still lovely and juicy. The Piri Piri sauce kicked the butt off a well known portuguese restaurant!!

For main I ordered the chicken hanging kebab. I’ve had this before and as soon as I saw it on the menu I had to have it again. This time, it was even more PERFECTLY cooked. Tender, smokey, barbecued chicken and vegetables on a skewer. It arrives with a little ramekin of melted butter seasoned with sweet chilli, ginger and garlic. You pour this over your kebab right before eating and its drizzles off the meat and onto your chips. FILTHY but utterly delicious!!!!!!!

Colin went for a Beef Burger from the BBQ with added cheese and jalapeños. Considering this isn’t a ‘burger restaurant’ it was extremely good!! The proportions were bang on, just the right ratio of meat, to cheese, to salad, sauce and bread. It was juicy without being fatty. His chips (seasoned fries), like mine, were YUM!!!

Ollie’s lunch really was the cutest though!
The kids menu is simple but great value and pretty much the kind of food that all kids love.
We chose Scampi, chips and beans for Ollie and it all arrived so gorgeously presented with his ketchup in a little wheelbarrow and the baked beans in a plant pot. Archie would LOVE this!!!

All this was washed down with crisp, cold New Zealand Sauv Blanc and more craft beers from the extensive drinks menu (just for mummy and daddy obviously!)

We were pretty full, but the lovely waitress persuaded us to share a desert with our coffee. We chose “Baked Cookie dough with Salted Caramel Ice cream and toffee sauce”.

OH. MY. GOODNESS!!

How on earth one person could finish this, I have no idea. It’s indulgent, gooey gorgeousness. Super sticky and sweet, but just SUCH a treat to share!!

We finished with some really good coffee in pretty cups before strolling through Tatton Park to burn off our epic lunch!!

Overall..
A really lovely atmosphere, warm and friendly.
Confident and efficient service, despite being new, and staff that seem to genuinely enjoy working there.
Great for kids, but still cool.
Brilliant selection of wine, beers and cocktails.
Quirky, simple and tasty food that you’ll be desperate to Instagram…along with those pretty floor tiles!!
