I still feel silly calling myself that.
“I have a blog” or “I blog” sounds much more normal doesn’t it?
I can’t believe that as I write this post it’s almost 2 years to the date that I launched Hunters & Heels. It’s always dead easy to remember exactly when I started blogging because it was the start of my maternity leave with Ollie (who’s just celebrated his second birthday).
I never imagined that 2 years later (well, firstly that I’d have a 4 month old baby…must be bloomin’ mad!!) I’d be able to visit London and attend the Press Launches of some of my favourite brands, stay in gorgeous hotels overlooking the city and enjoy afternoon tea with some of THE BEST in the industry… like an ACTUAL ‘Blogger’!!
I hope it doesn’t come across that I’m boasting about this trip, because believe me, I know that I am very much a tiny fish in a very big sea, but this wee space here is something that I created ‘just for me’, ‘just for fun’. It’s a hobby, not a job, and I still have to pinch myself that I have come as far as I have.
That said, I’m also very concious that since Rory’s arrival, this wee corner of the Internet has been a little neglected. That’s mostly been intentional. I remember how quickly these weeks flew by with Ollie and how my tiny baby just seemed to disappear before my eyes. It’s so important to me that I’m present for my little men, and Colin too…he doesn’t want me on my laptop for hours every night either.
This blog and all the little places I call “Hunters & Heels” is “my thing” and it’s time to start getting some of “me” back too. So let’s call this “the turning of a new leaf”….and I hope you’ll see a little more of me around here in the coming months.
Two super-fun trips to London was the perfect way to kick off a new season in my life as a blogger…
Here’s a glimpse at what we (that’s my lovely mum, Rory and I) got up to during our 2 days in The Big Smoke……as well as a few more highlights from the second trip I took with Rory and my darling friend Jules last week….
First up was The White Company. It’s one of my absolute favourite high street stores, so a bit of dream for me to be able to attend their press show.
More than just a shop, the White Company is a brand that knows itself. They have mastered the art of celebrating every season, whilst maintaining their distinctive, unmistakable elegance and style. If there’s one season they really are famous for though….It’s Christmas. And this is what we were lucky enough to be able to preview in London.
We walked into the venue to be greeted by the incredible and distinctive fragrance of ‘Winter’. If you haven’t yet experienced this fragrance, I promise you, you will never settle for another Christmas Candle again…Its Divine!!!
Without spoiling the surprise too much, I can tell you that the Christmas/Winter Collection is divided into two parts…”Highland Escape” & “New Elegance”. I love them both!
We drank prosecco and enjoyed delicious salads while browsing. It was so lovely to meet some of my favourite instagrammers in person, all such warm and funny girls!
You may not know of Cream, and you don’t really need to know them unless you’re a brand that’s looking to connect with affluent and high net worth audiences. Famous in the blogging world for their uncompromising professionalism and reliability, I feel really really lucky to have worked with Cream a few times and it was so lovely to finally meet them person. Particularly in such a lovely venue as Charlotte Street Hotel. Babies are always such a good ‘judge of character’ and its safe to say that Rory was rather smitten with this lot!
After a wander around the shops Mum, Rory and I headed to our hotel. We stayed at The Zetter Hotel, a contemporary converted victorian warehouse in Clerkenwell, just a walk from the West End. I would absolutely recommend the Zetter if you like modern, comfortable and friendly with a boutique vibe and a luxury twist.
Think huge comfy beds, crisp white sheets and all the little luxuries you’d expect from a boutique hotel, including velour slippers and fluffy robes. We stayed in room 503, which had a HUGE roof terrace overlooking London and a floor to ceiling curved glass wall. It was spacious, bright and calm.
The staff went over an above to ensure we were comfortable, even setting up a travel cot for Rory, complete with a teddy and blanket. So kind!
We chose to eat dinner in the hotel restaurant The Zetter Winebar. This was mainly for convenience as we had Rory with us, but I was so thrilled that we did. The ambience was perfect, not too quiet but calm and relaxing. The service was exceptional from start to finish….and the food….well I’ll let my pictures do the talking….
Honestly, one of the best meals we’ve had in a hotel restaurant, really fresh and seasonal and beautifully presented. It was so lovely to sit and chat to mum without feeling rushed. I would book the restaurant for dinner even if we weren’t staying in the hotel. Just lovely!
The next morning we enjoyed an indulgent breakfast on the sunny roof terrace while Rory enjoyed a lie-in on our comfy bed. We padded about in our robes and slippers making use of the coffee machine in the room.
If you’re visiting London do check out the The Zetter, I think you’ll like it!
We popped Rory into his YEMA Baby Carrier and walked to One Fitzroy where I was filming a Facebook live with Bobbi Brown. Super talented Amy Conway was demo’ing the all new Instant Full Cover Concealer on four volunteers with busy and tiring lives. As a working mum of two under two, they thought I’d be a good model (these shadows are not easily hidden I tell ya!!).
Oh my!! Now this really is amazing coverage and I love that it’s just one product! You can watch the Facebook live HERE
We grabbed some lunch and took a stroll to Marylebone High Street for the Bonpoint press preview of the Winter/Christmas Collection. If you haven’t discovered Bonpoint yet, get ready to fall in love. It’s absolutely how I love children to dress, classic, elegant, but still like children. Shopping for boys clothes can be tricky (particularly winter when the bloomers are too chilly) but the winter collection was so so gorgeous, I wanted it all. Thankfully, my best friend Carrie just had a little girl…so I could swoon over the girls clothes too….WOW! Not sure anyone does little girls like ‘Bonpoint’…………..
We raced back to the station just in time for our train home. Then, just a few days later, Rory and I found ourselves on the Ledbury Station platform at 6.30am again…excited for another day in London.
This time we stayed in Marlybone all day, starting with breakfast in The Ivy Cafe with my super gorgous Irish friend (and ex-colleague) Celine, who now lives in London and travels all over the world as the Education Manager for Bobbi Brown Travel Retail. I’m beyond proud of her and it was so good to see her big smile.
Then we met up with lovely Jules again and headed for….wait for it….the Jo Malone Townhouse!! Gaaahhh!!! I’m a MASSIVE Jo fan so this really was such an incredible treat. Butterflies in my tummy as we approached the prettiest house in the street, in a prime location on Gloucester Place, Marlybone.
Inside, we were spoiled with a stunning Christmas theamed lunch, Lobster Salad and Turkey Pie with cocktails. Then shown around the Crazy, Colourful Christmas Collection….OH EM GEEEE!!!!
Jo Malone have collaborated with British Fashion Designer Jonathan Saunders and everything is bright, bold and bursting with colour! You’re 100% going to LOVE these fragrances and gift ideas. The absolute Bell of the Colourful Christmas Ball being the new Green Almond and Redcurrant Cologne. It’s all Available nationwide from 21st October 2017
An afternoon darting in and out of more exciting meetings, topped off with dinner and wine with the lovely Supal of Chevrons and Eclairs…we raced for the last train back to Herefordshire.
Rory was an absolute superstar for the entire time on both trips. I’m always really conscious that I mustn’t brag about him…but truly, he is such a happy, contented little guy and an absolute joy to be around. I think he enjoyed his trip to London as much as I did! 🙂
Thank you, as always for reading about my little London adventure! Here’s to many more! 🙂
